Tenzi Tops the List of Best Toys & Games

What's a great game the whole family can play?  We highly recommend Tenzi, a dice game that creates a fast fun-frenzy.  One of the reasons it's so popular is it's so easy to play and just about any age can play against each other and still be evenly matched.  There are no complicated directions to learn so you get to the heart of the fun faster than you can say, "Tenzi!"  Each player gets 10 dice.  The first player who rolls all 10 on the same number and yells “TENZI” wins.  Award winning, Tenzi makes a great gift this holiday season.

The Chatham Bakery is Mother's Day Bliss

The Chatham Bakery & Cafe, located just off the beaten path on Crowell Rd, was my requested Mother's Day
breakfast destination.
It took little persuasion
for such a special occasion.
While drooling for several minutes in front of their luscious cases, I took the reins and said, "We'll be needing a box today," which we proceeded to fill with a Sweet Cheese Danish, a Half Moon (childhood favorite), a Butter Croissant, a Chocolate Covered Custard Cream Donut, a Lemon Curd Filled Donut, a Raspberry Filled Donut, and something I have never tried before, but was recommended by the friendly clerk, a TIGER TAIL--more on that next.
I must also note that another reason I chose the Chatham Bakery for my Mother's Day breakfast outing is their featured coffee brand, my favorite, The Art of Roasting.  So, on to the TIGER TAIL:
Please excuse the fact that I was unable to photograph it in its entirety, but I really couldn't wait to try the Tiger Tail since it's so special that it is only made on Sundays.
  It. Was. Ethereal.
I have to admit, I wouldn't have chosen it on looks alone.  I like little glam and glitz, and a little frosting never turns me away, so to taste what just appeared as a 10 " long braided piece of dough was a sublime surprise, and not just because there is a hidden chocolate ribbon wrapping its way within the heavenly light yet moist donut.  I WILL be back next Sunday...maybe every Sunday.
As you can see the delicacies dwindled quickly, but we were able to save a few for later.  The Chatham Bakery's fresh made donuts are beyond compare.  We especially loved the lemon and raspberry filled donuts.

Nothing brightens a rainy day like a trip to the Chatham Bakery Cafe!  And their gardens and ocean wave privets, complete with shark fin (can you see it above my daughter's head?) are a spectacle no matter what the weather!

Slicing Knives - Cooks Illustrated

Just in time for Thanksgiving, Cook's Illustrated has once again chosen Forschner Victorinox as the best knife for slicing and carving that delicious turkey.

Slicing Knives - Cooks Illustrated: "Forschner Fibrox 12-Inch Granton Edge Slicing Knife
This knife was our favorite for a number of reasons: Moderately heavy, it had enough heft and rigidity to make straight cuts, while a slight flexibility gave a feeling of control. The thin, tapered, razor-sharp blade was long and wide enough to draw through a large roast in one stroke."

A Taste of India

We decided to try one of our new product lines the other night. Bittersweet Herb Farm made our dinner go from simple to exotic with just a few ounces of their delicious spice packet. We chose Spices of India for a change of pace.

Spice packets are so versatile. From dips, to rubs, to sauces you can easily jazz up any course of your meal. First we made a dip by combining the spices with cream cheese and mayonnaise. We dipped in some cucumber slices for a yummy start to our dinner.

The main course took less than 20 minutes to prepare. We sauted chopped onions and green peppers in olive oil, then added thinly sliced chicken breast. When the chicken was lightly browned we added 1 cup of water and brought it to a boil, and then simmered for 5 minutes. In a small bowl combine 4 tbs of Spices of India with 2 tbs of Worcestershire sauce with 1 cup of water. Just mix this in and let it thicken. We served it over short grain rice. It was easy, delicious, and was a great way to make dinner extraordinary.

Oxo's Box Grater is Best

Once again Oxo places first for best gadget. This time it's the Oxo Good Grips Box Grater. Cook's Illustrated, the bible for those who worship at the altar of the 6 burner gas range, has determined the Oxo Good Grips Box Grater is the most effective and safest grater. They tested six models with block mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and raw pototoes. Our favorite Oxo model won for it's slim design, sharp blades, and clear measurement container. It's definitely a kitchen essential.
