Make a Whimsical Creme Filled Cookie Cake!

Remember the days of twisting off the top of an Oreo cookie to get to the delicious creme filling? Then, to change things up, dipping the next cookie in a cupful of milk, so it melts on your tongue. Well, the cake pan gods have created a monument to that childhood pleasure: the NordicWare Creme-Filled Wafer Cake Pan Set. And, with their easy, delicious recipe, you can make your sandwich cookie lover's dreams a reality, a gigantic cookie cake.

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups water

3/4 cup cocoa (and some extra for dusting)

2 1/2 cups flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

3/4 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 cup butter

2 1/4 cups sugar

3 eggs

1 tsp vanilla

Directions:

Heat oven to 325 degrees. Grease pans and sift a little cocoa into pans, turning to coat. Tap out excess, set aside. Bring water to a boil in a small saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in 3/4 cup cocoa; set aside to bring to room temperature. In medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside. In large bowl, beat butter and sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, beat on medium speed, scraping bowl often until combined. Gradually blend in flour mixture, alternating with cocoa mixture, until well blended. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for 38-43 minutes, until toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan. Invert onto cooling rack and cool completely. Sandwich cakes together with your favorite frosting or ice cream!

Making It In America Is Green

We at the Dennis Port General Store are excited to share our recently unveiled American Made featured category on our website. Showcasing products made in the U.S.A, our American Made section is full of unique and useful kitchen gadgets, cutlery, candles, bath & body products, puzzles, and handcrafted items. Some of our featured companies still producing goods in America include Dexter Russell Cutlery, Lodge Cast Iron, and NordicWare cookware and bakeware. Being retailers for the last 20 years, we have watched with dismay as our favorite companies disappear, move manufacturing overseas, or become crushed from competition against cheaper, inferior products. One of our favorite linen companies, Stevens Linens out of Dudley, Mass, couldn't even get their raw materials within the U.S. anymore. Can you imagine, an American company having to import cotton? The American consumer's passionate, eternal quest for the "cheapest" is often ignorant to the "best" and has certainly been blind to the vitality of American manufacturing jobs. In today's "buy it local / green jobs" environment, it's our opinion that the real "green jobs" are the jobs in which Americans are doing the manufacturing. So here at Dennis Port General Store, we will continue to choose to sell the American made Clam Knife instead of the one made in China, as long as it's possible.

Reconnecting "Blooms" Creativity & Commerce

I have recently become a big fan of social networking. Living on Cape Cod can be an experiment in solitude, so re-connecting with old friends, making new friends, and networking through the Internet is a refreshing life-line and even a great source for new, exciting products for our store. Today, I am so excited to present Bloomy's Cape Cod Wine Charms. I recently reconnected with an old friend through Facebook-I think we actually go back to kindergarten! She introduced me to her business creating up-cycled products. I learned from her that up-cycled is the process of creating new, useful products out of tired, useless or cast aside items. In her artist's studio she creates beautiful works of art. When I saw her Cape Cod Wine Charms made of up-cycled Scrabble tiles, I knew we had just found a great connection for our businesses. So today, I woke up early to put her beautiful handmade wine markers on my website. I present them to you, to admire and possibly even buy for that special person who loves wine almost as much as they love Cape Cod...
